The AN-94 assault rifle had been officially adopted by the Russian Army and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 1994 as a possible replacement for the venerable Kalashnikov AK-74 series assault rifles. The AN index means “Avtomat Nikonova”, or Nikonov Assault rifle. This rifle had been designed by the Gennady Nikonov, a Russian arms designer, at the IZHMASH state factories, during the late 1980s and early 1990s. This rifle, initially known as the ASN prototype, had been developed for and submitted to the Russian Army trial contest, held in the early 1990s. This contest, known under the code name “Abakan” (a small city in Russia), was intended to develop the more effective replacement for the AK-74 assault rifles. The ASN was tested among the many other prototypes and eventually won the trials, and was consequently adopted. At the present time the AN-94 is considered as the “professionals’ choice”, and is used in limited numbers by the elite forces of the Russian Army, police and Internal Affairs Ministry. AEK971 is being developed at Kovrov Machinebuilding Plant (formerly known as Kovrov Machineguns Plant) by chief designer SIKoksharov. Key feature of the AEK971 is gas driven, balanced action with rotating bolt barrel locking. Balancing mean that AEK971 gas drive has two gas chambers and two gas pistons. First gas piston is linked wia gas rod to the bolt carrier an moves as usual. Second gas piston is linked to the balancing msteel weight and moves in opposite (to main …

@togogot0 yay
does the an94 even got recoil?? omg, that gun is amazing, and very easy to handle
@togogot0
lol word
@Naughtyhead AKABAN-94
In Soviet Russia gun shoots you.
@giorev33661, no it’s not the most accurate assault rifle in the world. It’s the most accurate assault rifle in the world on full-auto.
:16 that’s what she said…..
@jimbo081 grow up little boy
@giorev33661 AK-74 is just the carbine version of the AK-47, and no the M16A4 has alot more accuracy than the AKs-74u and AK-47, but the AEK971 Vintovka is a new carbine version of the AKs-74u, the AN-94 was to be used for the Russian Army but as an Assualt rifle
@55runescaper : It fires it’s first two rounds very quickly, then slows the rate of fire to the normal ‘full auto’ rate.
@HirachieOfSociety
If I’m not mistaken, AN-94 = Avtomat Nikonova model of 1994. I’d have to look it up, but I’m pretty sure that’s what it is.
And for the rest of you, I’m a gun nut inside and out, specifically interested in collecting Russian small arms and AK rifles from all over, and I never once heard of the AEK-971 until I played Bad Company 2. See, I’m one of those weird ones who started playing these games BECAUSE i’m into guns, not vice versa. Now I’m hopelessly addicted to both
@giorev33661
I have an AK-74, and it will stand up to any mil spec AR-15 or M16 out there, but I wouldn’t say it’s any “better”. They both do the job. By mil spec, I mean standard, not tricked out $4000 match rifles with heavy barrels and all that stuff. I personally prefer the AK because it’s what I’m comfortable and familiar with, you don’t have to baby it for it to be reliable, its simplicity, and how it utilizes a long stroke gas system with far fewer potential points of failure, but YMMV
@MultiGoodKid
Why fix what isn’t broken? The PKM is in my opinion, the best light/general purpose machine gun out there today. Exotic stuff like the AN94 is all fine and dandy, but the PKM has something that weapons like that don’t… simplicity. The PKM is basically just the time tested Kalashnikov AK action adopted for belt feed, and chambered in the more powerful 7.62x54R round used by the SVD and Mosin Nagant rifles. It’s light, reliable, accurate, powerful, versatile, and proven.
@yellowmadness54
RPD isn’t in the AK family. It actually has nothing to do with the AK whatsoever, other than being chambered for the same ammunition. The RPD was invented several years before the AK by a completely different guy. I don’t know enough about the AEK-971 to comment, but the RPD isn’t related to the AK in any way.
@GenAdams
It shoots the 5.45×39, the same round as the AK-74, AKS-74u, and AN-94, which actually has better ballistic performance than the 5.56 round used by the AR-15/M16, M249, and countless other rifles and machine guns. Bullet drop is actually less of a concern with the 5.45 than it is with the 7.62×39 of the AK-47, because the velocity of the small, fast 5.45 is far greater than the comparatively large, slow 7.62. The 7.62 definitely hits harder, though.
@cauberallies
i’m not sure where you got that, but i’m pretty sure that heavier, larger caliber rifles shoot further, hence the larger kinetic power of the projectile. see lighter things don’t travel that far because they need less force to stop, the heavier the bullet, the slower it stops, and is less affected by downforce. try throwing a piece of paper and a similar shaped rock see which flies further
you won’t hit a target from 2 miles with a 9mm pistol, but you will with a .50BMG rifle
@Harrower13 i know that…
@GenAdams
PART 1/2
You’re right, but not in this situation. It all has to do with the velocity. The 7.62×39 is at the bottom of the scale as far as .30 caliber rifle rounds go. If it had the case capacity of say the .300 Winchester Magnum, which flies much further with much more energy than the 7.62×39 with roughly the same bullet, you’d be right. But with a similar sized case, a smaller, lighter projectile can be pushed much faster than a larger, heavier one.
@GenAdams
PART 2/2
Like you said, a 9mm pistol won’t hit a target 2 miles away, but if you put the bullet in a much larger case with more powder and higher pressures, its effective range will increase dramatically. And if you neck the 9mm case down to accept a .22 caliber bullet, the smaller bullet will travel much faster, with increased range. What you are saying is true if case capacity isn’t an issue, but for a given size, a smaller lighter bullet will fly farther faster than a big heavy one
@cauberallies
you just said it. it travels FASTER but not FURTHER. as i said (not having a PhD in science), a heavier projectile needs bigger force to stop. this force being the air, and as the bullet cuts through the air it’s surface makes contact with the bullet. if the bullet is heavy, it will not be stopped any soon, if it is small and light, it will be forced to stop pretty soon. one part you are right about: gravity. larger mass things are more affected by it.
@cauberallies
so yea, being faster does not mean increased range instantly (well, ChayTec kinda proved that the .408 that they use for the M200 can actually beat a .50BMG, it being longer, but thinner than it.) the .50BMG is great for anti-material use, it has insane penetrative power, great ballistics. but the kinetic energy of a .408 is greater, so it’s more accurate (the bullet will keep itself on the right path better), and shoots further (up to 2 miley i believe)no idea about their speeds
What gun do you prefer, the AEK-971 or AN-94?
Personnally, I prefer the AEK-971. It’s more accurate at fully automatic than the AN-94, it’s cheaper to mass produce and it’s currently undergoing trials to be manufactured more. Plus the AEK also has more modern variants the AEK-972 and the AEK-973.
Don’t get me wrong, they are both GREAT firearms and symbols of Russian ingenuity, but if I only had enough money for one of these, I’d go with the AEK-971 in a heartbeat.
So, what do you want?
@Cobra1098 totally agree with you
ok, i have fired the AR plataform, (an m16 a3) its comfortble and very hergonomic, and it has a considerably low recoil, but i wonder, why the american doesnt develop a muzzle brake for their rifles?, they could have the recoil of a BB gun, must be someting related with fire disipline or something.
i love the ak 74 i own one but ill trade it for that sexy an 94 anyday as you can tell im a big fan of Russian guns
