I’m a United States citizen, raised in Massachusetts, lived most recently in California. I have a valid California driver’s license but I now go to school in Louisiana. Do I need to get a Louisiana ID before I can purchase I firearm? Or is it just as easy as walking into any gun dealer in Louisiana with my California ID and buying a gun? I’ve never owned a gun before, so I’m new to this whole thing.

Long gun only, no handguns. The long gun you buy must be legal in your home state. example, a high capacity firearm may be illegal in california, if you buy one in louisianna, you may have committed a felony. You’re going to get a lot of garbage answers about adjoining states only, there is no federal law on the books concerning that. I live in NC, I can drive to nevada and buy a rifle legally if I wanted to.
Well, you can always move your citizenship to your city/state of residence. This might reduce your insurance rates, etc. It also allows you to vote in local elections and thus purchase your desired firearm (provided you are of legal age).
Good question, Everytime I buy a gun they make sure I am a resident and that my address is correct. Go to the NRA website and look up purchase laws. They have everything you want to know.

You can buy a long gun – rifle or shotugun – when you are out of state from a dealer. ‘Assuming’ the state you are in does not have any requirements for permits or gun bans.
It is the purchase of pistols where you can only buy them from a FFL dealer in your home state.
Nothing stops you from doing a private pistol sale – regardless of where you are or who you are – except for maybe Washington DC and Communist California.
Holy tin foil hat Batman! No wonder this bunch is working so hard to proactively throw dirt at the Sheriff’s department psychologist. Last thing these conspiracy nuts want is a psychologist that has previously evaluated them going on record.
