Gun Owners of America analysis of current House Bills:
H.R. 17, H.R. 45, H.R. 197, H.R. 442 & H.R. 495
H.R. 17 (Bartlett): This bill would reaffirm the right to use firearms for self-defense and for defense of one’s home and family.
H.R. 45 (Rush): This bill would require a license for handguns and semiautomatics, including those currently possessed. The applicant must be thumbprinted and sign a certification that, effectively, the firearm will not be kept in a place where it would be available for the defense of the gun owner’s family. The applicant must also make available ALL of his psychiatric records, pass an exam, and pay a fee of up to . The license may be renewed after five years and may be revoked. Private sales would be outlawed, and reports to the attorney general of all transactions would be required, even when, as the bill allows, the AG determines that a state licensing system is sufficiently draconian to substitute for the federal license.

Dont be stupid. Any infringment on our constitutional right is a bad thing. not a good thing, and one more thing read the whole bill. WAKE UP AMERICA, this is not right, The Oath our politcians take when they get into office is to DEFEND our rights, not take them away. They cant just change the constitution because they think it is ok. They are traitors. If they take your guns what will they take next. YOU really think they will stop at one of your rights. If you do you are uneducated and you dont understand your rights. Just because I believe that blacks should be slaves doesnt make it right. They deserve to be free because the constitution grants that right. Same with guns. It doesnt matter what the people say, The constitution should not be treated like an old outdated set af rules, it is a living document that should not be infringed on
Be sure to read the comments, you will find more information about federal firearms license

I got this from another answerer on Y!A
This is a post from an Australian police officer…
Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the now available data
from Down Under. It has now been one year (12 months) since gun
owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal
firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program costing
Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.
The first year results are now available:
-Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent;
-Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent;
-Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent);
In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up
300 percent as compared with the last one year period when private
ownership of a firearm was legal.
(NB: the law-abiding citizens did turn in their personal firearms,
the criminal element did not and thus criminals in Australia still
possess their guns.)
-While data for the 25 years preceding the confiscation of privately
owned guns showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms,
this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months as criminals
now are assured their victims will be unarmed.
-There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults
of the elderly, while the resident is at home. Australian politicians are
at a loss to explain how public safety has
decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in
successfully ridding Australian society of guns.’
-This story of well intentioned government intervention in the
rights of lawful individuals to own and possess firearms won’t be seen in the
mainstream US media or on the American evening news. Senator Obama
who advocates a similar confiscation in the US will not be reporting
any of this to you. But, the Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the
hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws
affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Americans may want to take note before it’s too late!

Freedom only works for those who fight to keep it.
"The laws that forbid the carrying of arms … disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Can it be supposed that those who have the courage to violate the most sacred laws of humanity … will respect the less important and arbitrary ones … Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants, they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." — Thomas Jefferson
yes i knew this. Sure is funny that the libs will allow you to murder you own baby, but not allow you to protect yourself from a rapist
those would be unconstitutional. violates 2nd amendment ,but also violates ex post facto part as well
And that is a bad thing how?
Sounds like a great plan to me. Unless you’re a criminal, a nutty lunatic, or some gang banger, it shouldn’t bother you at all right?
With Obama and Biden at the helm, we’re on a destruction course of epic proportions, so expect more draconian laws in the near future… it is the grand plan, and the majority of Americans voted for it… they were "OBAMATIZED"
There are those who are certainly going to try. With anti-gun Democrats like Pelosi, Reid, Obama and Biden holding the reins, they will have a certain level of success.
Change doesn’t buy what it used to.
there will be such a tremendous backlash if this passes that congress will have to re-evaluate. if not, then the people must mobilize and vote out their representatives. it is supposed to be a government that protects and upholds the constitution, and a government FOR the people, not against them.
I strongly disagree with any amendment rights being removes, but none of those bills would remove 2nd amendment rights. The first one you posted actually reaffirms the right to use guns for defense.. The second merely requires a license (which is pretty much already enacted anyway in most states) the only difference is that they added a requirement for a clean psychiatric evaluation. It doesn’t really change much though.
Yes and as a loyal NRA member I am on my congressman like white on rice about it
There should be a back ground check as far as your criminal history but anymore than that and my friend it is called a revolution. You can not take our American rights. Not Bush and Not Obama.
People have lived in this country for so long they seem to forget the s*it can hit the fan.
did you bother to check if these bills have any traction under them at all?
do they have co-sponsors? have they even made it into committee? or have they just been drafted? Have you called the speakers office to ask if she is considering bringing them to a vote or not?
What i’m trying to say is that THOUSANDS of b.s. bills are drafted every session and HUNDREDS of those are presented only to never make it out of committee or past the speaker.
already this session there has been a republican who authored a bill suggesting amending the constitution to remove term limits on the POTUS. …never found a co-sponser, he never really cared if it did though since it was a political stunt, not a serious idea
With a president, congress, and Senate, as what is in power now, it wouldn’t surprise me at anything they do. It seems to me the American citizen has been shown the door, he’s leaving, and all the dummies are throwing ( tihs) at him, sort of like a kick in the @ss. The ones in power do not want the old American Government, they want this totalitarian type of government.
I guess that we should not be suppressed. Liberals seem to think that it is wrong for people to want to stop criminals from taking what is not theirs. But doesn’t that describe the government too?.
"Dont be stupid. Any infringment on our constitutional right is a bad thing. not a good thing … "
I take it then that you also favor removing all laws regarding slander and libel, which restrict freedom of speech.
There are also limits on contributions to political campaigns, which the Supreme Court has ruled to be a form of speech. Do you propose eliminating those limits as well?
Do you also think that you should be allowed to own Stinger missiles, or an M1A1 Abrams battle tank? A sawed-off shotgun? Nuclear weapons?
Our freedoms are frequently restricted, and rightly so.
Why is the Second Amendment different from all the rest?
In the NEW ORDER, you won’t need weapons. Submit and prosper.
