This is a good compact summary of California gun laws:

Hope that helps.
13 year olds go and buy guns in the US and murder class mates at school, you shouldn’t have much trouble getting a gun for whatever reason it may be that you want one. By the way I don’t live in the USA so can’t advise on the license stuff.
Hi
You go to your local gun shop, select your gun, pay for the gun, fill out the 4473 form and go home. There is a waiting period. At the end of the waiting period you go back to the shop and pick up your gun, assuming that you pass the background check. Place the unloaded gun in the trunk of the car and drive home. Take the gun into the house.
In California, you can never have a loaded gun outside of your home or campsite. There is of course an exception for a shooting range, or when hunting in a legal area. If you are going to have a gun, I recommend that you get a hunting license and a fishing license, as there are some protections against the more ridiculous of the California laws.
As to a CCW permit, unless you are politically well connected, forget it. You must be in the "Right" social groups to have one, and most of the people in the state are just not on that A list.
CCW depends on where you live. Ironically high crime areas where you really need it you cant get it.
You need to past a test to get a permit to buy hand guns. You will have to pass a background check for each one also. Long guns are just a back ground test
