It is against the law to have guns @ sea where the pirates are boarding ships with their weapons.
The lawful are at the mercy of the lawless when speaking of gun control laws.

Good point. At home we are under the efficient protection by the DHS, the FBI, the CIA and the wonderful police. No crimes here.
Funny how the violent crime rates fell in Florida and Texas after the law abiding folks could carry a concealed weapon ain’t it. The cowards committing the crimes don’t want a fair fight.
Funny because it works really well in all of the European countries and the number of deaths by guns is directly proportional to the strength of the laws in each.
Try not to be so frightened, just because you don’t have a gun doesn’t mean all your neighbours will beat you up, they will be just as scared of you if they have to give up their guns too..

Apparently there is some myth that there is law that prevents boats from having a weapons on board. There is no such thing. Owners can put security forces on their boats.
What it comes down to is liability and cost. It’s a business decision.
If one runs an option tree and finds that the expected value of paying a ransom is much less than the cost of maintaining a security force on a boat, then the decision is obvious – take your chances.
It’s not like the people crewing these boats are unaware the waters of the Horn of Africa are dangerous.

Apparently your not familiar with the transportation of Arms and Ammunition’s Acts..Any American ship Can transport any and all Arms aboard any vessel which has to be found to process secured quarters for such munitions and weapons.. MEANING,,The United States of American Flagged ships,,CAN transport or store ANY and ALL weapons and munitions !! Once at sea,,if the occasion presents itself,, in its own defense,,CAN defend and repel any and all attacks on its vessel !!! I think that says it all.. NOW,, will the ship owners,,take the responsible actions to protect its property and workers.. Its NOT up to Obama,, its the ship owners issue.. America is paying for everything and everybody already,,Now let the Big Business owners protect themselves !! Period !!! SCARBORO

No law against self defense…….as long as you have the right permits for the weapons.
and laws or no laws………….you try to board my boat illegally……I am not gonna worry too much about which laws I break preventing that from happening.
These "small" vessels don’t carry weapons because if they did would only endanger the lives of everyone on the crew.
American vessels may need escorts from the military now. This is the first time its happened to America, I’m sure we don’t want it to happen again.
