I’m curious as to whether or not a C&R FFL will allow me to have an AK47 shipped to my house or if the C&R FFL will only allow relic and "historic" firearms to be shipped? If it turns out that a C&R FFL would not permit an AK47 being shipped, is there another type of FFL I can obtain that would allow an AK47 and how much would it cost to obtain this license?
Be sure to read the comments, you will find more information about FFL Licence

C&R basically covers very old firearms.
Yes, if you got a regular FFL you’d be able to get gun sent to your house, but that is a TON of time and expense and legal paperwork. Also, to get a regular FFL, you must actually be getting into the business of buying and selling firearms, it isn’t just for a hobby collector of guns.
No. My buddy has one only curio & relic count only and they have to be 50 years old. It would have to be an ak made before 1956 that somehow got into the states but with current importation bans in place your out of luck.
Go to the ATF website and look up the rules before you get yourself in trouble.
The C&R is only for curios and relics – as defined by BATF and – it needs to be a model on the BATF official list…….. listed on their web page as well.
FFL’s are for people who sell firearms for a living or as a major portion of income – and – requires you have a separate store front and posted hours. Not collectors. Not for people who want to dodge their local state laws. Years ago you just filled out the application and ponied up $50 for the license – not any more. BATF is very proud of the fact they have decresed the number of FFL holders in this country by over 60%.
Even if you slipped by BATF and received an FFL – eventually they would find you and revoke it once they determined you are not actually in the business of selling firearms. What would you do with the firearms you’ve collected over these years? Good chance you would be calling the local police and asking them to come pick them up and dispose of them for you.
This is not a good choice to make.
Hope this helps
Does a C&R FFL allow a person to have any semi-auto rifle or handgun shipped to their house?
YES, but it has to be a C&R designated firearm. Some, but not many are semi auto and mostly older pistols.
The AK is not C&R.
Yugo SKS is C&R, but Chinese, Russian, etc. are NOT.
50 years old does not necessarily mean it is C&R!! It needs to be on the list or not otherwise prohibited.
You cannot get a 01 FFL unless you are in the full time business of selling firearms and they want these days to see an actual business, not work-from-home or the trunk.
Nope, all firearms must be sent to a FFL. All you have to do is have the AK47 sent to the closest FFL to you and complete a background check. They do that because if anyone can have a gun sent to his or her house without a background check then honestly anyone can obtain a gun. Also, obtaining a FFl license just for one firearm is not really financially smart. Also, you need to check your local gun laws about whether the firearm is regulated by the state. If so then u will have a more extensive background check, but not that bad.
This is not correct. Firearms must be 50 years old OR on the list. Quote below is from the BATF website:
Q: What is a firearm curio or relic?
Firearm curios or relics include firearms which have special value to collectors because they possess some qualities not ordinarily associated with firearms intended for sporting use or as offensive or defensive weapons. To be recognized as curios or relics, firearms must fall within one of the following categories:
1.Have been manufactured at least 50 years prior to the current date, but not including replicas thereof; or
2.Be certified by the curator of a municipal, State, or Federal museum which exhibits firearms to be curios or relics of museum interest; or
3.Derive a substantial part of their monetary value from the fact that they are novel, rare, bizarre, or from the fact of their association with some historical figure, period, or event.
@DJ
Whoever is insisting they HAVE to be on the list is wrong and please STOP misinforming people ! The ATF book says exactly hat Jerry posted . He is correct ! Please others quit misinforming because it’s what causes so much confusion in the FFL world. I just got mine and the list are exceptions like limited serial numbered AR-15s and Albanian sks made in 78 . The list can confuse people but pay attention to the word Or !
