O.K….We sold a really nice (And expensive…2K) rifle to a Man who we were familiar with…(Parent of one of our child’s friend)….But not real close to….So we extended some trust by accepting a Check from him as he owns a small business for rifle supplies…. (Small time manufacturing for rifles…Stocks, handguards, etc…) He also has an 07 FFL ( A license for manufacturing). When he got the rifle, We got a copy of his DL, FFL, bill of sale(He kept trying to backdate it), and the check……He asked if we could wait for 3-5 business days to cash the check as he wanted to sell the rifle to "someone else" through his business who wanted to use a credit card and he would have the money in 3-5 days in his account. We deposited the check after 5 days. The check was returned with all kinds of charges and so on…He will not return our calls or email. His voice mailbox is full. It has been 4 days. What are some realistic options? Any real legal action we can use now?
There were two charges…Both related to his check(*RETURNED DEPOSITED ITEM and MAINTENANCE)…We covered our end for sure and didn’t spend anything against his check…But we’re out 2k none the less. The fee’s are small time. The real issue for us is the rifle and the money owed for it. because of the nature…We’re wondering who to call first…Local police…DA….ATF….?

well, i am looking to order the DPMS Panther Carbine here in the very near future. They have prices on the internet but obviously wont sell it to any regular Joe, because my lack of FFL. Well, how would one go about acquiring one of these rifles, would i have to find a FFL dealer licensed with DPMS? will they mark it up more than what DPMS website shows? im just curious, because on gunsamerica.com, they are a little more expensive.

Thank Very Much,
Ryan S.

I have two handguns I’d like to sell (on consignment/to a licensed FFL dealer) but I’ve only recently looked at the laws in Michigan and I’m not sure what to do, or if I may have broken any laws.

Handgun #1
I used to live in Texas and received a handgun as a gift there. At least at the time, there was no requirement to register handguns. I moved to Michigan (Wayne county) several years ago and brought it with me. It’s just been sitting around and rusting but I could really use the cash now so I looked into selling. I was told by friends here when I moved that I didn’t need to, but NOW that I’m looking over Michigan law, I find that handgun registration is the law here! So I’m pretty sure that I need to register this weapon whether I sell it or not but I’m worried that there may be some fines (or worse) for having waited so long to do it. I can’t provide a bill of sale or a previous registration card for above reasons.

Handgun #2
I inherited from my Mom’s recently deceased fiancĂ©. He had no written will but his other step-son (only other heir) told me he hated guns and that I should have it. I would like to sell this weapon too but am unsure if I need to re-register it first since I’m not the original owner it was registered to. I can’t provide a written Will or original registration (haven’t found it yet) but can provide a death cert. and I’m sure the step-son would vouch for me if necessary, if that helps at all.

I really want to do this the right way but am unsure how to do it. And I’m also a little concerned about getting a felony or something just for (stupidly) not filling out a form on handgun #1 years ago, so I’m reluctant to ask local law enforcement first. Thanks for your help.
