I take offense at the term. I own a CZ-452 .22 rifle for silhouette shooting. I own a Benjamin 392, 397 (my first gun) and HB 17 for plinking. So I own 3 pellet guns and a .22. I was called a "gun nut" by a neighbor after a pet pot belly pig was shot and killed by a moronic child in the neighborhood. I shoot at targets on my property with my pellet rifles and pistol, legally. I only shoot my .22 at a range. I would never condone the act of shooting another person’s pet. I think the kid should be punished to the limit of the law. It was brought up I shoot in my yard too and the police paid a visit on me to ask a few questions.
Some how the acts of a few stupid people has tarnished all of us. Do you as a gun owner support the right to bear arms to the point of irresponsibility? Is there a point where you draw the line. I do. I know some people out there shoot for the thrill of killing. Not me. I don’t even hunt. How can we expect to keep our right to bear arms if we support absolutely no gun control or responsibility. Responsible gun owners will lose everything because of the few who just can’t do the right thing.

liberal gun hating media and even more liberal politicians coined the phrase and I hate it as well.
but don’t confuse a criminal act like shooting a farm animal with being a responsible gun owner. the problem with supporting any form of gun control is that if you give up even a small portion of your rights this go around, how much will they take next? or the next? soon, they have taken them all. Ask anyone who lived through Hitlers regime.
as far as drawing a line, how about this, teach proper firearms safety. Teach responsibility and respect, morals and honor in the home and in schools. Teach respect for the laws, and stop coddling criminals.
Some low life shot a domestic animal. The owners are upset, and rightfully so. But did the firearm load itself, stalk the animal and shoot it all by itself?
No, a criminal did. So why the knee jerk reaction against the firearm? Why not be outraged with the lowlife punk and demand his prosecution?
remove criminals from society. crime stops. nothing to do with a firearm owned by a law abiding citizen.
Removing firearms from a society is guaranteed, and proven to cause a rise in violent crime.
taking firearms from free citizens turns them into subjects. removing criminals makes for a decent society.
Will I ever turn into a subject, give up any of my rights to own a firearm, give up my ability to protect my family?
sure, when they shovel the dirt over my coffin. But you can bet that my children will still fight to protect their rights to gun ownership.
shoot safe
Its used by some people to try and stigmatize, criticize, complain, condemn about those who use, collect, own, or hunt with their personal firearms.* It is a put-down and repudiation, and disdain towards Gun Owners.* You can bet that those who do have not exercised there 2nd Amendment Rights themselves by using or owning any firearm whatsoever.* Their loss is our gain.* Do your best to learn to ignore their meaningless ranting.*
Liberal media uses criminal activity they report to make anyone who owns a gun for legal purpose look bad. Even if they have a story about someone saving lives or how youth programs keep kids off the street they still twist it to look bad.
And for the most part, they are ill informed and do not care to listen to correct info.
Responsible gun owners have gotten a bad name not only from irresponsible people but from those that possess guns illegally. Unfortunately, there are many that don’t recognize the difference.
I bought my first gun at 12 and have had it since. I support responsible gun ownership. I would even support a law that required new gun owners to take gun safety training. This may prevent some of the irresponsible behavior.
Some of us ARE gun nuts. Some are even proud to be so. But that’s not your real question. That child is obviously a problem, and may be one of those who wind up in prison as adults. Where I live, the police would have that in perspective, and that would be that. If it isn’t the case where you live, you have my condolences.
gun ownership is like a driving license you wont know who is the good driver and who is the idiot that drives on the left lane doing 20 mph while on a cell phone.
the only way to keep guns legal and out of the hands of morons is not to pass more laws but to enforce the ones that exists already as most people that have suspended drivers licenses drive anyway until caught so when gun violent idiots that bought a bang stick illegally gets caught,, put him away for good.
Ever since that Brady Bill, people got a little bit nervous….one guy gets shot in the head by a dude stalking Jodi Foster and voila, we are all "nuts"…..it’s kinda like most Democrats…..the media says one thing and everyone on the left adopts it as there own personal "statement" about affairs..
Example: Those failed Bush Tax Policies…..
So now, every yak that gets 3 seconds on you-pick-the-media-outlet uses it as a canned response to why they aren’t voting for McCain…."well, I just don’t want those Failed Bush Tax Policies"….for once, I wish the interviewer would ask Susy Rottencrotch at the diner to name one policy, failed or otherwise, so we could all really gauge the true IQ of this pogue….like this "voter" ever learned ANYTHING about economics let alone "policies"…….got to love the media.
What does this have to do with gun nuts? Nothing, but it has entirely everyting to do with most people never have an original thought. Your neighbor is no exception. I’ve learned over the years that the only way to assuage your knee-jerk anger in these situations is to have fun with it.
Try:
1) Oh, we aren’t gun nuts, and we will shoot anyone who thinks to the contrary….(see if their eyes can tell if you if they know what contrary means…if they do, you will enjoy the joke all that much more…if they don’t, nuff’ said)
Always pi$$ off your porch, patio, driveway, behind the garage in plain view, you know, really get them thinking about moving. Insist the kids leave the bikes outside, big-wheels in the driveway, lots of defunct bar-b-que grills…..sure….play it up…
2) Wow, every since I got off those "mood elevators" I’ve just felt the "urge" to shoot things….do you think we should look into it?
3) Mumble; "Redrum, redrum, redrum….and see their knowledge level about movie trivia
4) Go to the local thrift store and buy some used postal worker outfits…if they aren’t available, buy some dickie shorts at Wal-Mart with an equally distasteful blue button down shirt, blue balcap, high knee-socks, and some crappy walking shoes, a leather bag if you can find one, bigger the better, and start plinking with THAT on….
5) Don’t shave on Saturday or Sunday morning THEN go plinking in your back yard…..keep a few budweiser cans laying around for effect
6) sling a long gun over your shoulder with some plaid coat arrangement on while you walk to the garage whistling "Dixie"
7) Play C&W music LOUDLY, take up smoking, and plink some cans from the comfort and privacy of your own fold-out chair…the kind with the fiberglass fabric, aluminum frame….you get the idea…..
9) Bye some old rusted piece of "car" and park it in the neighborhood….let you kids plink at it with their bb guns and come out and feign concern when you see them do it. Make sure that the car is positioned in such a way that if they were to miss with their Daisy "Devastator Model 666" he, the neighbor, will be at risk…whoa! should be a hoot…
As you can see, you aren’t going to change their minds so just roll with it….I find it great fun to load my guns in the back of my truck s l o w l y as we prepare to leave for another day at the range.
I don’t know if it works but, my lawn has never been more clear of their dog’s crap, the obligatory waives to my tiera-missou neighbors never more short!
Enjoy!
you have thousand of people that go to church and because of a few crazys there all pegged nuts. any group of people will have a few nuts in it making it harder for the sane people to get along with everybody else.
Unfortunately, it’s the rare assh*le who gets the ink.
They give the anti-gun crowd arguments to use against
the rest of us.
(Serious gun hobbyists call themselves ‘gun nuts’
and it’s not a slur, but a term of fellowship.)
The illegal act was perpetrated by a juvenile criminal. Punish the parents too for poor supervision. 90% of gun owners would not shoot a pet. The other 10% really don’t deserve to have guns.
The problem here was not gun control…. it was some teenagers messing around, doing stupid stuff.
If they didn’t have a gun, they would have shot it with a bow and arrow, if not that, they would have thrown rocks at it.
The weapon was not the issue, the issue was some kids goofing around doing stupid stuff like kids goofing around do.
This is already illegal…. what would a gun law do, that the laws against destroying another person’s property doesn’t?
Don’t hide behind this to forward your gun control agenda.
Also…. if your gun control works so well, wouldn’t it have stopped these kids from having it to begin with.
Gun control doesn’t work….. this is a perfect example. A crime was still committed, by a group that was not supposed to have guns to begin with. This current law is also not effective, it only causes inconvenience for responsible people.
Frankly, I don’t mind being called a gun nut. It is a moniker that my friends and I use to describe other firearms collectors.
Sort of like saying someone is a "city slicker". That’s just fine. When you visit the city, you want to have a city slicker around to show you how to act, where to go to have a good time and where to stay away from…unless you want to wind-up in the morgue.
Same goes for hillbillies. Country people come in handy when you want to know which mushrooms are safe to eat and which ones will put you to sleep…forever.
My view is that the only "gun nuts" are the ones who think guns cause crime. Charles Schumer and Sarah Brady are a gun nuts.
