I’m just wondering how i can get a Class 3 Firearms license in NY State, how long does it take to get? How much does it cost to get the License?

   The license is (I believe) $3000 for two years (may be $5000 now). You apply to the ATF (you can get the forms at atf.gov).

   In acquiring a class 3, you must sign a contract giving ALL local law enforcement agencies, as well as the ATF and FBI, permission to come onto and into your property at any time to secure the weapon(s). You must also keep them informed of the weapons whereabouts at ALL times, including transporting them to and from a range to shoot.

   Class 3s are a lot of fun, and a lot of hassle. If semi-automatic weapons are ever banned, you can kiss them goodbye for sure, because the first thing the government will do is come to secure your full-autos, and in doing so, they will seize any semis they happen to find while there.

   If you still want to proceed, contact the ATF. They will send you the applications along with all the affidavits, photo and fingerprint cards (which you have taken at your local Sheriff’s office, then send to the FBI), and all the forms you’ll need to possess and transport class 3 weapons.
