Ok so if I’m 18 and a friend of mine is 21, can he purchase the pistol from the store, and then sell it to me? I think the law is 21, but I heard something about that only applying to registered dealers or something. I have never been arrested, and my buddy who would purchase the pistol actually works at the sport and goods department in this grocery store and handles the sales of guns. thanks

ok so it says this:
Handguns
* Permit to purchase handgun? No
* Registration of handguns? No
* Licensing of owners of handguns? No
* Permit to carry handguns? No*
* It is unlawful to sell or transfer a firearm capable of being concealed on one’s person to anyone who has been convicted of a felony or adjudicated a delinquent minor for conduct that would constitute a felony if committed by an adult. It is an affirmative defense that 10 years or more has elapsed since the unconditional discharge on the prior offense.
* It is unlawful to knowingly sell or transfer a firearm to a person whose physical or mental condition is substantially impaired as a result of an intoxicating liquor or drug, or to sell a firearm to a person less than 18.
"Jsatt" – this is from the official gun laws in Alaska – " Registration of handguns? No "
so apparently in my state, registration of a hand gun is not required
Be sure to read the comments, you will find more information about firearms dealer license

If he buys for you or buys it with the intention of reselling it to you it is a federal crime. Right on the form (I think it’s the 4473) he has to fill out to purchase a firearm it asks if you are the actual buyer and if he says yes, then turns around and sells it to you he has lied on the form. It’s commonly called making a straw purchase.
Unless Alaska state law prohibits it then if it was a family member buying it for you for a christmas, birthday or just a gift it would be legal as there is a right to transfer the ownership even to a person under 21. But having your friend buy it for you will potentially get him tossed in jail for a decade, make him a felon and most probably you would be in the next cell.
So basically save the money and get your parents to buy it to give to you as a gift and it’s all legal.
You won’t be able to register the gun, and having an unregistered gun is illegal.
you can’t have a handgun ’til your 21, that’s the federal law and state law mean nothing compared to federal law, look it up. if it says you don’t need to register it, then you don’t, but double check to make sure. a firearm in most states is considered a longarm like a shotgun or rifle and handguns are considered concealed weapons in most laws, and your not allowed to own concealed weapons until your 21, see how they can f*** you up by considering handguns as concelaed weapons and not firearms?
i dont really know if he can sell it to you,
but i know he can transfer the gun through a ‘gifting process’
so, he gives you the gun (birthday, christmas, whatever), and you slip him however much it costs under the table
Getting your buddy to buy it for you would be a straw purchase, a felony that would forever bar both you and him from ever owning a firearm. Just wait until you’re 21.
It isn’t nice to ask your friends to break the law for your convenience.
Yes, it’s a stupid law, but it’s what we have. Don’t focus on (reasonable) AK law. It’s the federal regulations that’ll get you.
All these answers regarding Straw Purchases leave out one very important factor; for it to be a Straw Purchase the weapon has to be purchased with the intention of transferring it to someone that can not legally possess the weapon. Since you can legally possess a handgun at age 18, I do not believe it meets federal requirements as a straw.
Now, that being said, the gun would still need to be transferred to you legally. Contact your local State Police Barrack and they can give you the proper paperwork and/or the phone number to call to get a final ruling.
I am an Alaskan certified hunter safety instructor and long time hunter and trapper.
In Alaska you can own and use a handgun between the ages of 18 and 21 only if your parent or legal guardian purchases it for you, and, they supply the ammo for you.
If your buddy buys this for you – it is a Federal Felony. This is called a ‘straw purchase’, and is totally and highly illegal. You can be out hunting or shooting at a range – if a wildlife protection officer, trooper, or police run the serial number and it does not come back with your parent or guardian’s name – you will be arrested on site.
Same with the ammo. If your 21 year old buddy buys it for you – he can end up in jail.
If your parents or legal guardian buys it for you – you are golden.
My son is 20. He has his own apartment on the other side of town. I bought him a nice Springfield XD. He has a 600 lb gun safe to keep it and his rifles in.
Hope this helps
