Thanks for initial overview of the scope! I just got mine today for the price its a great scope. The glass is clear and illumination works great in low light.
No mount cause RRA is taking foever to ship
Just checking back to see how its coming! How did you know I was in the market for a 1-4xwhatever scope for my AR?!
Thanks for scooping this, I hadn’t even heard about it.. been looking at Millett DMS1, a Nikon, a Burris w/pepr mount (spendy)… I hope this Leatherwood is as good as it looks
5/5
@CoolasIce2 ROFL.Nice
@wanderingwoods: Wandering, he said it was an INTRO review, not a full one…
@wanderingwoods wow man hows about you get off his balls and here is an thought Mr. Good idea fairy, you want it done like that do it your damn self. Im just saying
As I mentioned . . . I’m sold! I bought one almost immediately after this video was posted. It just arrived in the mail . . . very cool scope! Many thanks for the advice.
?????+ML (well deserved by the way!)
too bad they have only 1/2 moa adj. Any good scope should have 1/8 moa adj.
@aaadream Yeah, for benchrest shooting. Practical shooters on the move need 1/4MOA at most. Consider that this is only a maximum 4x power magnification, and couple that with a guaranteed maximum lethal fragmentation range of 200yds with the 5.56 bullet, 1/2MOA adjustments is more than fine for a fighting rifle. For a longe range, high power bolt action I would say 1/4MOA at minimum, up to 1/8MOA if desired.
@wanderingwoods Maybe he should fire 5000 rounds and let you know how it shot?
Looks like an awesome scope. If I didn’t already have a Millet DMS I’d pick this one. All the good features of the Millet plus the BDC and a few ounces lighter. A great compromise between a traditional magnified scope and a reddot/holo sight.
Not a Review, more like an advertisement.
Made in China, BTW thanks for supporting american workers!!!
Just to clarify, Burris is NOT affiliated with Dark Ops as said in the intro, not sure where you got that info from. The Burris is the XTR model and is a great scope… it’s also almost $700. Dark Ops is the same as countersniper, which is an absolute joke and known for their fraudulent marketing claims… don’t buy from them.
Also, not sure who told you they are using the ART in iraq? The army issues leupolds on both the Sniper and DMR platforms, in combination with ACOGS. Many guys choose to buy something better, like Nightforce. USMC uses Schmidt & Bender, ACOGS, and some other things. ART is old technology that is somewhat fragile, it’s not a big player these days.
@imperialfleet1 CMR (Close Medium Range) Since most small arms engagements happen with 100 meters, 1/2 MOA is fine. This is not a Sniper Scope Mate~
@wyocowboy1984 There are numerous sources stating that the ART series Scopes are being used in Iraq and Afghanistan. I didn’t imply it was the primary sight used but that it was still in the field after all these years. The main sights being used by US military are ACOG’s, EOTech’s and Aimpoint. The Schmidt & Bender 3-12 x 50 PMII LP is being used as a sniper scope and not a CQB sight.
if the sources are “numerous”, then how about a link? I wasn’t implying the S&B was for cqb use, but they do make a 1-4 as well, but not int the affordable price range. Yes, eotech and etc are there too but you mentioned those in the vid so I didn’t feel the need to rehash that.
Anyway, I liked the vid I just wanted to clear up some mis-info, especially the burris thing.
WOW
if this scope holds together under FIRE then it will be a really good deal!
I’ve wanted one with “the look” of this one for my RECCE rifle.
I’ll definately be looking into this scope. THANX FOR THE REVIEW!
Thanks for that excellent review sootch00. Can you recommend a good scope under $100. thanks.
i like!!!!
WOW that scope sounds really sweet! I really like the Zro Lock turrets, it sounds like a really good idea. 1x-4x gives you plenty of range, if you need more, you should probably just grab a designated sniper rifle anyway… Thank you so much for reviewing it!
What do you think .. good choice for a Socom 16? seems like it may do the job.
hey sootch00. when you say “Long live the Republic.” What is the Republic?
Thanks
In case anyone is interested, Leatherwood/Hi-Lux purchased their own factory in China a couple of years ago and now builds their own products. The CMR was designed last year, released this year and is a combination of some of Jim Leatherwood’s ideas he left with his partner, and the input from one of their technical advisors who is a former combat sniper, and is currently a law enforcement firearms instructor and avid big game/safari hunter.
@DTOM1775 Sootch, this doesn’t include the ART II, though. The ART II is built in Oklahoma.
FYI I have one of these optics close to 2000 rounds through it I can say that it is a fine tool. In my personal opinion cranked down to 1X it is faster to gain a sight picture that with many red dots, but the real advantage is being able to crank it up to 4X on those medium to long range shots. I noticed the BDC is relativly close to point of impact at extended range not dead on, but this can not be expected, since there are so many variables between rifles, ammo, and mounting options. Overall though it is a good rugged optic that has kept me excited.
As for any good scope having 1/8 MOA adjustments? When did this become the case. In my oppinion 1/2 MOA is perfect for most aplications, especially if you are planning on actually using those turrets for their purpose longer range shooting, quickly. Who wants to sit there and crank all day on their turrets and remember 8 clicks is one MOA? when they have to make a 4 foot adjustment. Maybe un the world of long range target match shooting 1/8 adjustments have their place but that is not what this scope was designed to do. This scope is really a sweetheart and for the price it is unbeatable. I bought one expecting to be disapointed and found myself using the scope as my primary optic for my duty rifle. After using this scope I am planning on putting 3 more on different rifles, one is even my hunting rifle. The best part is, I can afford to do this for the price of one Leupold MK4.
