I sold a WWII dated P-38 handgun to someone. Now I need to ship it to them. He is going to get his FFL to send me some paperwork and/or license to me so I can ship it through the USPS to the FFL. Is this possible? Do they have some form or something to let me ship a handgun USPS?
I know I could ship it next day through FedEx or UPS, but at – that is a bit extreme and would like to ship through the USPS priority for -.
So is it possible that his FFL can
The USPS will ship hand guns if you are a 01FFL (dealer), I am only a 03FFL (curio and relics collector). I am trying to find out if the 01FFL has some way to let me, a private citizen (as the 03FFL dosen’t effect shiping, only recieving C&R guns), send them a hand gun through the USPS. I don’t think I can but I want to make sure as saving would be great.

The US Post Office will not ship firearms. I was told this by them last year when I tried to send a handgun back to the factory for warranty work.

Well then, TRP……the Post Office employee gave me wrong info then. I had all necessary paperwork from the manufacturer to return it to them and the Post Office STILL refused to accept it. I’ll check with them again tomorrow.

Update: Just talked with my neighbor that works for the USPS. (He’s worked for them for almost 30 years) He said that ONLY rifles and shotguns can be sent through USPS provided that they are declared. Handguns, under NO exceptions can be mailed through USPS.
Use UPS.
I’m not quite sure but I think a licensed dealer has to send it to the other dealer.
I tried to mail a few gun parts and insure them through the post office and they would not accept them.
the 01 FFL can’t help you ship from your end. His lic is address specific to him.
"private citizens’ need to use UPS of FEDEX and pay the big bucks.
if you ship,
make sure the FFL will accept guns from private individuals, some dont.
you can find an FFL in your area to ship for you, they usually charge $15 to $20 fee, pluse postage and insurance. still cheaper than UPS!
Gunbroker and Davidson’s have FFL search programs to fine one local
good luck,

BTW, Mark, shipping back to the factory is the only exception for private individuals to use USPS. you CAN do it, but only if the factory sends you a pre-paid shipping label.
