I have been somewhat interested in the possibility of purchasing a full-auto capable AR-15 for home defense. However, I would only wish to do this legally. I have been considering going into business part time as a gunsmith, as I already do a great deal of custom machining and fabrication work. With that in mind, I will need to acquire at least some level of Federal Firearms License anyway. So, my question is this: Hypothetically, If I were to acquire a top level/class FFL (I live in Indiana), would it be legal for me to buy, own, or use new, (not pre-1986) fully automatic weapons? Thank you.

Anyone can possess a fully automatic licence or silencer if they pass a background ck and pay the 500 bucks a year, and must notify local state police when transporting those items. It is not easy but can be done. My friend an ex navy seal has an ingram with silencer and fully automatic thompson sub machine gun and showed me what papers he has to file with ATF each year.
If you’re starting a business making automatic weapons I’d get a lawyer to explain everything to you.
Also, please produce a taser minigun. This is a thing that would be good for our country.
"In theory", yes, you can get a permit to own a fully automatic firearm. In reality, though, VERY unlikely to happen.
The only people I know with a permit to own a full-auto weapon are established firing range operators that rent them out to the public to use in the range.
