Procedure for filling out an 03 FFL for an out of state student?

September 10th, 2010 admin 4 comments

I am a student in Kansas, but my license/car is still registered under my mom’s address in Missouri as my permanent address, as is the norm for students studying out of state.

I wish to fill out an 03 FFL for Curios and Relics so I can pick up a few milsurp guns to plink with on weekends. Nothing illegal about owning and storing them where I currently live.

However, under what address do I fill out the FFL? My current apartment address in Kansas or my permanent address in Missouri? I assume that if I have to fill out my form under Missouri, that I’ll have to have everything shipped to my moms place and then just make a trip to her place to pick it up?

Also, who exactly is the "Chief Law Enforcement Officer" that I have to give a copy of the FFL to? Local sheriff?

Thanks for any input!

Does a C&R FFL allow a person to have any semi-auto rifle or handgun shipped to their house?

September 6th, 2010 admin 6 comments

I’m curious as to whether or not a C&R FFL will allow me to have an AK47 shipped to my house or if the C&R FFL will only allow relic and "historic" firearms to be shipped? If it turns out that a C&R FFL would not permit an AK47 being shipped, is there another type of FFL I can obtain that would allow an AK47 and how much would it cost to obtain this license?

Any FFL holders in Iowa who could help me?

September 3rd, 2010 admin 4 comments

I’m looking to buy an RPK from J&G guns online, and so far no place in town that HAS an FFL (scheels, pawn shops) will do business with me on this, since the only place that will, only does it for deer rifles or shotguns. Now i’ve had an SKS before, and have behaved responsibly for many years with firearms, and in fact am currently in paperwork with the BATFE to get a Type 50 explosives manufacturer license (legal hobbyist) and have a spotless criminal record (including driving!) and even coach an after-school program, so between being a good-intentioned guy and having the BATFE already allowed to conduct random visits for my explosives license, i think i can assure you pretty well that you’d be safe selling me a "scary" gun like an RPK. No criminal record of anyone in my household either.

So do you think i could find somebody in Iowa with an FFL who actually WOULD let me pay them a good fee to let me purchase through them, cash up front? How much should i expect to pay them?
Oh and i put this in hunting because i plan on using this for backyard hunting (i live in rural iowa where i have a safe area of privately owned woods to shoot in) as well as the hunting guys always seeming to have better gun answers. You can contact me through email from my profile page if you want.

Do I need an FFL license to sell guns at auction in Oklahoma? ?

August 30th, 2010 admin 1 comment

I would like to hold an auction in Oklahoma and would like to sell guns. Do I need an FFL to do this? If I don’t get an FFL can I use an auctioneer that has an FFL to get this done legally?

FFL Procedure question?

August 22nd, 2010 admin 1 comment

I’d like to order an AR-15 from Spikes Tactical. It’d be my first rifle and first (maybe second) firearm purchase. I’m just not sure what exactly to do as far as the FFL. They already have one in my city on file but I’ve never personally visited the store. The one I went to get my license to purchase handguns was a different store entirely. Basically I’m looking for help on if I should just order it since they have the FFL holder’s info on file and when it gets to the my local FFL holder (the gun shop) I’ll just get a call to go pick it up or should I let the gun shop know ahead of time that I want to order from X company ahead of time and then put the order in? Basically I’m looking for the answer to this question….Does the FFL holder have to know that they’re going to receive an online order before said order is delivered to them? I’m not really new to guns just new to buying guns. I just turned old enough to purchase last month. Thanks.

Are there different classes you can take that allow a civilian to own and/or carry certain firearms?

August 13th, 2010 admin 5 comments

I have heard various answers from people in law enforcement but are there certification courses that a civilian can take that will allow them to legally own, operate, and/or carry firearms that fall under FFL levels 2&3 or is just having the tax stamp enough? For instance, I have a very small apartment and I would like to buy a short shotgun so that I can move freely around my home and be able to quickly present the shotgun if there is an intruder, however there are laws prohibiting me, as a civilian from owning a shotgun with a barrel that is less than 18" or one that is under a certain over-all length. Is there a class I could take that would allow me to own and use a firearm like this legally? I would also like to purchase a suppressor for my .45 because I am concerned that if I had to discharge my firearm in an emergency, self defense situation, in my home, that I could damage my hearing.

I have talked with retired police officers, military personnel, and gun store employees and received very mixed answers on this subject. I realize it probably depends a lot on where I live. I live in Virginia, a shall issue state so I would think, with the exception of maybe Florida or some Western states that are even more relaxed on gun control, if it is possible to obtain a license or certification to own something like this I would be able to here. I have, as I stated before, also heard that simply paying the tax stamp and going through a 2 or 3FFL dealer would be enough but I would like to make sure so I don’t create any trouble for myself. Thanks for any help.
I was asking more in generality tho. Most of the FFL 2&3 firearms I am interested in I wold like to have simply to take out to the range and have a good time with. The short shotgun and suppressor are two of the few I would pick as ideal self defense.

Unknown, I own both a .45 1911 and a 9mm Baby Desert Eagle, I practice often at the range but I have been present for an accidental discharge in tight quarters and it is very loud. Also, I live in a rough area and have had armed men at my doorstep on more than one occasion, fortunately the sound of racking the slide on my .45 has been enough of a deterrent to avoid an incident. I have confidence in my shot placement when I am awake but the shotgun takes less thinking if I were to wake up out of a dead sleep and need to defend myself, my loved ones and/or my home.

Eddie, I realize the laws about the length, but as I said I am in extremely cramped quarters so it would be advantageous for me to have a smaller framed firearm.
Also Unknown you said "not in Virginia". Did you mean that there are states that Do issue a permit or license for these kind of firearms? I was watching some behind the scenes features on a DVD and they said that the weapons master on the set is one of the only civilians in the country licensed to own, operate, and supervise the use of a Glock 18c, which is a fully automatic handgun. That statement is actually one of the major things that sparked my interest and led me to ask this question.

How old do you have to be to get a C & R Class 3 License?

August 11th, 2010 admin 1 comment

I’m 18, can I get a C & R license?
My state law says I have to be 16 to purchase/own a rifle/pistol. Federal law makes it so that you have to be 18 to buy a rifle from an FFL, 21 for a pistol. If I can get a C&R license at 18, could I get a C&R certified pistol?
