Firing Hungarian AMD-65 7.62x39mm AK-47 Rifle

I know NY state have insanely complex gun control law and regulation. I plan to move to upstate New York to reside. I come from a Western state that’s very liberal in gun rights law. I will live in a house and securing the pistol in storage will make me feel comfortable in heightened security. Amtrak has a policy that clearly prohibit any firearm even in secured packaging. So the only option is to ship the unloaded firearm securely through FedEx or UPS. Can I ship the unloaded pistol in a locked container inside a tight package from UPS/FedEx location to another UPS/FedEx location & sign confirmation upon pick-up or do I need to obtain the license for a non-resident (unlikely)? If I become a legal resident after at least 6 months to a year, can the unloaded pistol be shipped to me by a relative or FFL dealer, provided I hold a valid license?

I have no conceal carry license in MN.
I would be transporting the firearm, unloaded, and in a case in my trunk.
The ammunition would be stored in a different bag in the trunk.
When at the hotel, the pistol, unloaded, no ammunition present, would be stored in the case, in my hotel safe.

Am I good?

I had probation for non violent assault. It was a misdemeanor charge. I was sentenced to two years in a S.C. prison, but immediately suspended to 2 years of probation. I Sold all of my firearms as instructed by my probation officer. I have now served two years and have been released. I have paid my debt to society. release date was Jan 27th. I went to buy a pistol today because I thought, that i was okay to. I went to a licensed gun dealer and voluntarily filled out the forms. about ten minutes later I was declined by the NICS. I don’t understand what the problem is? does anyone have any pertinent information? Thanks in advance for the help.
P.S. this charge has nothing to do with domestic violence…..thanks
