When I buy a firearm from a licensed dealer, they record the serial number and call in the background check. Is the firearm being registered to me? I live in a state which doesn’t require registering (Florida) but it seems like they are still tracking who’s got what…
so the gun is not being tracked in anyway? If I sell the gun in a few years to someone who uses it in crime..the gun can not be tracked to me at all?
Getting a receipt is a great idea…but still if the gun is used in a crime…you would be the first one the cops come to investigate and then you’ll better have a good alibi, since a receipt could be so easily faked..

I would just like to know if Rifles made prior to the Gun Control Act of 1968, requires registration under state or federal law? I own a Rifle that was made in the 1950′s, without a serial number, and I live in NYC. NYC is pretty restrictive in gun ownership, requiring registration of all rifles and shotguns.
