I have tried checking with several sources; some say that the required age for a Federal Firearms License is 18, others say 21. I have also read that different ages are required for purchasing certain types of firearms (shotguns, handguns, rifles and respective ammunition). Does anyone with experience in this field know what the correct required age (for each, if necessary) is?
I’ve always been a legal citizen and have no criminal record, so no factor other than age (I’m 17) prevents me legally from being able to hold a license.
I am particularly interested in rifles, such as assault rifles and battle rifles in .308 Win, 7.62mm, etc. Are there any other requirements for these types of firearms?
My Grandpa left me two shotguns in Illinois when he died. I was pretty young at the time and now I’m living in Colorado where I just passed my hunter’s safety course and am looking to get a license to hunt duck this fall. From what I’ve been able to find, his brother (who held on to the guns) can’t send them to me unless I’m a licensed dealer. Thus, I’d have to go to Chicago and pick them up in person (a decent drive). If you know of anything different, please let me know.
I am interested in obtaining an FFL to become a dealer of rifles, shotguns, and handguns to supplament my income and as a hobby more or less. I have already ordered ATF Form 7 and fingerprint cards.
Questions:
What other forms should I order?
How much does liability insurance cost for such a business?
How should I structure my business (sole proprietorship, LLC, etc?
Any other tips or suggestions?
Thank You!
