Could it be that Dan Coats is one of the most anti-2nd Amendment Senators in U.S. history?

"On multiple occasions, Senator Coats supported gun control measures. In 1991, he voted in favor of Biden-Thurmond Violent Crime Control Act of 1991. This act, which did not become law, would have created a waiting period for handgun purchases and placed a ban on semi-automatic firearms. Subsequently, he supported the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act that President Clinton signed into law in 1993.[5] The legislation imposed a waiting period before a handgun could be transferred to an individual by a licensed dealer, importer, or manufacturer. This waiting period ended when the computerized instant check system came online."

1) hearsay is "good enough reason" to ban a book
…The State Bd of Ed banned the children’s book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" because they confused the author, Bill Martin with another author, Bill Martin who wrote "Ethical Marxism". Instead of banning the book, these dim bulbs banned anything by Bill Martin. The board member who introduced the measure even admitted that she just took someone’s word for it.

2) marijuana (personal use amt): TX penalties:
…Possession — 2 oz or less, class B misdemeanor, incarceration 180 days, fine ,000
while in Indiana: possesion < 1 oz can result in a few hundred dollar fine, attendance in a drug class, participation in community service and agreeing to unsupervised probation

3) In 2009, Texas executed a mentally retarded man for rape. The Supreme Court disallowed the penalty back in 2002 but left the decision up to the states as to what constitutes mental retardation. Texas has has joined with Mississippi and Alabama in the idea that someone with an IQ above 66 is not impaired.

4) Texas gun laws:
…NO waiting period to purchase firearms
…NO safety training is required to obtain a license
…NO requirement to register firearms with the police
…NO background checks done at gun shows or for private sales
…NEITHER state police nor federal NICS perform a background check
…NO mandatory requirement for locking devices be sold with guns
…NO license or permit is required to buy handguns
…NO ability for the police to limit carrying concealed handguns

I realize those to the far right will applaud these situations and the far left will heap scorn on them.

I am looking for responses from the middle-of-the road respondent, NOT the extremists.
I’d like to hear what centrists think.

Here’s my 8 step plan to end the illegal immigration problem in the United States.
1.Secure America’s borders-Put 10,000 national guard troops on our Southern border, & they would be allowed to carry firearms.
2.End Jus soli or birthright citizenship-Section 1 of the Fourteenth Amendment to the US Constitution states that:"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, & subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States & of the State wherein they reside." Have a Constitutional amendment so that any child born in the United States to an illegal immigrant mother would regain the citizenship of his/her mother.
3.Quit pandering to illegal immigrants-The U.S. senate should pass a law making English the official language of the U.S. No state should offer illegal immigrants drivers licenses, in-state college tuition, or any other privileges. We should make illegal immigrants feel like outsiders, so they will want to go back to their countries of origin.
4.Get rid of sanctuary cities – Many cities in the United States are sanctuary cities. These cities have adopted sanctuary ordinances banning city employees & police officers from asking people about their immigration status. The U.S. federal government should terminate federal funds to sanctuary cities, until they drop their asinine policies in regards to dealing with illegal immigrants.
5.New law-Every illegal immigrant charged with a crime (even a non-violent misdemeanor) will be forced to register with ICE.
6.No amnesty – Make illegal immigrants earn American citizenship. Only offer citizenship to illegal immigrants that have never been charged with a crime (except for illegally coming here), fluent in English, owe no back taxes, passed an American history test, & went through a 5 year waiting period.
7.End chain migration-Illegal immigrants that obtain U.S. citizenship, will only be allowed to bring their spouse & minor children.
8.Deportation-Every illegal immigrant that doesn’t meet all of my standards to obtain U.S. citizenship is subject to deportation. All anchor babies will either be deported with their parents, given to legal family members, or be put into foster care.

I live in CA, which has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation. I would like to purchase a used handgun from a private party in another state. I understand that this person would have to take the gun to a licensed dealer, who then contacts the DOJ for authorization to ship the gun into CA. A licensed dealer receives the gun, charges about 0, and I then have to go through the 10-day waiting period, etc. etc….

My question is this. What would happen if someone decided to circumvent all of that hastle and the seller simply packaged the gun and sent it directly to the buyer’s home without going through the proper channels? My wife claims that this is done all of the time, that in fact a relatively significant percentage of firearms are transferred this way. Not that I’m intent on doing this, but I’m curious as to 1) how widespread this practice is 2) how likely it is that one or both parties will get caught 3) what the penalty would be for such a thing.
Note: It’s not that I need a gun so badly. I already own a 12-guage shotgun, have five children in the house and am a safety fanatic. I was just wondering what the consequences would be if one did not go through the proper channels.
