To understand this question if you are not from Australia you need to realize that Australia has an EXTREMELY restrictive firearms licensing system. No 2nd amendment here.
So I made an application for my firearms license, 4 weeks later it gets rejected due to a clerical error made by the officer who took the application.
Now it has been resolved they have to re-submit it and start from scratch, meaning ANOTHER 4 weeks till I get my gun, which I have already paid for and is sitting in my dealers safe.
So, I’m considering going to the ombudsman and trying to get a rush put on my application, but no doubt the ombudsman will be hassling the officers involved to find out what happened and if I am unsuccessful, and have to deal with those officers again, not only will they think I’m a prick, but they may intentionally delay my application.
I was also considering court, suing for specific action, I.E. granting my license.
Suggestions?

You dont have a case – unless the delay has resulted in you being placed on unpaid leave from your job there is not even a civil case you can bring forward. A four week delay due to a clerical error is nothing.
Not only will you not win your case but this is the type of action that will result in you A) paying all the costs of the police and B) perhaps labeling you a troublemaker and this could in itself make the application rejection permanent.
