Rifles, shotguns, and handguns do not need a license to own or buy, and they are not registered with the state. So no penalty there unless it’s a rifle or shotgun that’s been sawed off or the serial number has been filed off, in which case the filing off and/or possession of said weapon is a crime.
Assault weapons are another matter…
If it is a handgun and you moved here from out of state, there is no problem as long as the gun was bought legally.
