1) there are gun control laws in place. 2)not everyone that owns a firearm is a nut job looking to gun down people. 3) in order for a person to own a sellect fire weapon (automatic) you must get a Federal Firearms License (FFL) and not all states allow that 4) criminals normally don’t go to the store and buy them (they steal them) 5) Charlton Heston is not the president of the NRA, John C. Sigler is. I do hope this helps to clear afew things up. So get it straight.

Many people are ignorant of gun laws. Most people don’t realize that in most states they have the right to carry one. I applied for my CCW (concealed carriers permit) and take my firearm into every place that allows it i.e.… some gas stations, state parks, some Wal-Marts and other places. The majority of people who are killed by guns are the people who don’t have one on their person.
Yes, not everyone who owns a gun is a nut job. I am a Chemical Engineer. I solve problems in the field of Chemistry using differential equations, intuition, and advanced mathematical tools. Yet because I wish to protect my fiancé, my type of people has been referred to as ignorant rednecks.
I have a sign posted at every entrance to my home stating the following
“The owner of this home is armed. The contents of this home including the owner, the owner’s family and any guest will be protected with deadly force from unauthorized entry. You have been warned.”
This won’t stop a rapist, burglar, or their family from suing me if I injure or kill them but it is posted with the hopes that it will deter them.
Vibes-Yes, guns are made for the purpose of killing, I wouldn’t have one if they weren’t. If guns were made illegal to civilians I would give my gun to the proper authorities and obey the law. The only thing that would do is take away guns from honest people. Criminals would not obey such a law which is why they are criminals in the first place. In the end, bad people would have guns and good people would not.
If you dont own a gun and think they should be illegal why dont you put a sign in your yard stating
"The owner and occupants of this house do not own a gun"
Make a stand and broadcast your opinion, I’m sure it will go over well.
Also, many people assume that the freedoms we posses were acquired through our own liberal ideologies. I hate to say it but we didn’t exactly become America by fighting the British with candy canes and lollipops. We are the freest country because we are the most powerful country. We are the most powerful country because we have the most muscle.
Criminals can buy firearms, especially at some gun show in which no background check is required. I disagree with this as I was required to take a course, pass a test, and have a background check along with my credentials evaluated by a law enforcement agency who determined that I was fit to carry a weapon. A big mistake is assuming gun owners want criminals to have a gun.
A problem is that organizations have given themselves names to make themselves sound good intentioned. “The Brady Campaign against gun violence” is a little misleading in its name. I’m against gun violence, who isn’t against gun violence? The problem is that the Brady Campaign wouldn’t have as many supporters if they called themselves “The Brady Campaign for disarming responsible gun owners.”
If lobbying against gun ownerships makes people think they are more intelligent and modern than everyone else I hate to say it but those people are the true paragons of ignorance.
Oh well…great…thanks. That clears it all up now. Phew…now we all know, I guess we can expect the firearm-related deaths and injuries to plummet.
We know about the gun laws. What we don’t know is why A) they are not enforced vigorously, and B) why there are so many loopholes. Your assertion that criminals don’t buy guns, they steal them is not correct. They often buy from dealers who either don’t follow the laws, or who (Like at gun shows) are outside the laws. They will also buy from dealers in states that have less restrictions than the state in which they intend to use the weapon.
police kill people i think they should be outlawed
Guns are used for one purpose, to kill. There is no reason why a civilian should posses a weapon. They just need to ban weapons period.
Obviously the Gun Laws have proven to be useless, as people continue to murder other people with weapons they can purchase from their local K-mart.
(Just reminded me that Chris Rock once said that the best way to control firearms is to tax the ***** out of bullets so no one could afford them.)
I own guns but I do believe that they are a little too easy to get whether it be legal or not. This subject is just like abortion in the fact that the two will always be thrown around and will never get settled.
For the record, Charlton Heston WAS president of the NRA from 1998 to 2003. Your post, and it is NOT a question, does NOT clear up anything except YOUR lack of knowledge of the entire topic.
Note: Guns in the hands on law abiding citizens SAVE more lives than guns in the hands of criminals cost.
People are ignorant of much. Many people do not have anything to do with guns so they do not look into the laws. They do not understand the importance of the firearm to the ways of America and the freedoms we currently enjoy.
There are 20,000+ gun control laws in the United States. Even many police officers are confused by them. We need simple common sense laws that are easy for police to enforce and repeal unconstitutional gun bans including the 1986 ban on machine guns.
You should know that FFLs cannot buy fully automatic select fire weapons. You need a Class 3 license for that. It is very difficult to obtain a machine gun legally in the United States because of the Hughes amendment that was secretly slipped into the 1986 Firearm Owners Protection Act by anti-gun William Hughes. Its just that many people don’t know the difference between a real select fire military assault rifle and a semi-automatic clone for civilians. They look the same, but function entirely different.
